Over the years, I have worked with clients who have sought to improve their psychological well-being and/or gain better understanding and control of their use of substances.

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, it is quite common for us to struggle with finding balance in our lives. We frequently feel empty, unmotivated and detached. We have difficulty feeling settled and calm in our relationships with others, our work and our activities. Life often seems to lack direction and meaning. When we begin to experience these “symptoms” many parts of our lives can suffer such as our sleep, appetite, relationships, productivity and general satisfaction with life. In most instances, individuals can begin to feel a better balance within their lives by gaining a more realistic understanding of the events that occur around them. As a therapist, I employ a Cognitive-Behavioral approach to help enhance this understanding. With a more realistic interpretation of the events that surround them, individuals often report experiencing greater meaning in life, less anxiety over their future and a healthier sense of psychological well-being.

| Substance Use | There are a multitude of reasons as to why individuals use drugs and alcohol in their lives; certainly too many to list in this section. For many, drugs and alcohol do not interfere with their daily routines but for others, the use of substances has a profound negative effect on their lives. Many people resort to the use of substances to help “medicate” some of the problems mentioned in the above section and the treatment approach is very similar. A Cognitive-Behavioral approach can help provide some relief when used in conjunction with some other techniques that help improve social support and general coping skills. In addition to drugs and alcohol, many individuals become reliant on other addictive activities to find relief from uncomfortable feelings. Some of these other addictive activities can include: sexual behaviors, eating behaviors, internet activity, gambling and spending money. If you think any of these behaviors interfere with your satisfaction in life, treatment for your addiction should be explored. |
My area of practice includes counseling for psychological well-being, addiction and clients who have a combination of both. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families. In addition, group counseling is available.
